By Bob Keefer
The Register-Guard

Rescue greyhound owners met for their monthly group walk at Alton Baker Park on Sunday. While the dogs and their owners sauntered along, a group of human racers sprinted through the blustery weather to take part in the first “Jog Your Brain” run. Read more....

Castor & Pollux Grain-Free Ultramix On Sale at Grocery Outlet Stores

I saw this today at the Grocery Outlet store in Corvallis. Normally the 15lb bag sells for $35-40. It's now $15.99. I assume most GO stores are stocking this, but it's usually a "while supplies last" situation.

Here is the review of this food from Dogfoodadvisor.com.

And this is from the Castor & Pollux website:

Ideal for active adult dogs (all breeds, all sizes) through their golden years, with grain sensitivities.

Our grain-free recipe uses natural chicken as the #1 ingredient, followed by other poultry and fish-based protein sources for optimal nutrition and great taste. Real pieces of minimally processed fruits and vegetables provide a natural source of antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber that you can actuallysee in the bag. And there are plenty of other powerful benefits that aren’t visible to the eye, including Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids that contribute to healthy skin and a luxurious coat, and a balanced Calcium to Phosphorous ratio that helps promote healthy bones and teeth.

Natural Ultramix Grain-Free Adult Dog Food contains no artificial colors or preservatives, and no grains.

Greyhound Races Face Extinction at the Hands of Casinos They Fostered

OK, this is the last article on Greyhound racing...for awhile, anyway. I'm posting this article because I am very familiar with this track in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In fact, this track is where I adopted my first Greyhound, Rush, in 1997. Once upon a time, Bluffs Run was a decent track, as far as Greyhound tracks go.

The woman who ran the adoption organization at Bluffs Run had a tough go of it, as it was a one-woman operation with not a whole lot of visible support. As I was about to leave the area for Oregon, there wasn't much I could do to help but adopt Rush (Willowrun Rush). There was no adoption fee....Rush hadn't even been neutered. He was in pretty rough shape and expensive vet bills soon followed.

Greyhound Races Face Extinction at the Hands of Casinos They Fostered

Steve Hebert for The New York Times

Faced with declining profits, owners of greyhound tracks are now pushing for legislation to cut the number of races while maintaining their other gambling operations.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Not many people attend the races here at Bluffs Run Greyhound Park anymore. Aside from a few dozen aging diehards cheering the dogs from the shabby grandstand, the gambling-inclined prefer to take their chances amid the bright lights and constant action of the casino downstairs. New Greyhound Racing Tracks Open in Vietnam

Normally, I don't like to get too political on this blog, but I thought I'd address this information as strictly FYI.

=================================================

Last month, GREY2K USA learned that a businessman named Nguyen Ngoc My announced that he intends to build greyhound racetracks throughout the country, starting with a track in Ha Tinh Province. This expansion occurs at the same time that dog racing is dying in most parts of the world, and raises significant concerns about the welfare of greyhounds that compete in Vietnam.
