Rickettsial Bacteria



From the Albany Animal Hospital....

This is Molly. She came in the other day very ill. It was not apparent at first why she was so sick. She had very little energy, no appetite and severe diarrhea. On physical exam Dr Fletcher discovered that her lymph nodes were enlarged. He performed a needle aspirate and found a type of bacteria in her lymph nodes known as Rickettsial bacteria. On fecal analysis we found Salmon fluke eggs....

In a new study published in the April edition of the journal Science, researchers found that when dogs gaze into their special human’s eyes, and the human gazes back, increased concentration of the hormone oxytocin is produced and exchanged between the human and dog.

Canine flu outbreak sickens hundreds of dogs in Midwest

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A canine flu outbreak has sickened many dogs in the Midwest, and veterinarians are cautioning pet owners to keep their dogs from going nose-to-nose with other four-legged friends.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Veterinary Medicine says the virus has sickened at least 1,000 dogs in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana. Recent tests from the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory have identified the strain as H3N2.

Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with a retired racing Greyhound?

Well, here is your chance! Representatives from Greyhound Pet Adoption Northwest will be at Pet Day at Magruder Hall on the campus of Oregon State University on Saturday, May 2nd, from 10 AM - 2 PM, along with some wonderful retired racers for you to meet. Volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions about Greyhounds and Greyhound adoption.

GPA Northwest has been placing retired racing Greyhounds in responsible, loving homes for over 20 years. There is an application process, a home visit, and an adoption fee. Not ready to adopt? You can still come out and meet the dogs and learn what wonderful pets Greyhounds can be.
