Prevent Milky Eyes In Seniors With Milk Thistle

From the Dogster blog:

"The windows of my best friends’ souls are also impressively clear, without the heavy cloud cover one would expect in the eyes of such superannuated dogs. So, what’s our secret? Milk thistle."

Eugene Celebration Parade - Saturday, August 28th

The Eugene Celebration Parade represents the best of Eugene in all its diversity. Not without controversy, this irreverent collection of left- and right, alternative and traditional, new age and conservative never fails to delight, entertain, stimulate and provoke the dialogue and interactions that define our community. Ever on the edge of appropriately behaved, Celebration Parade participants are eager to share their own particular ideology for the enjoyment of the community and their fellow citizens.

The parade route (stretching 1.2 miles) is designed with public safety and traffic control in mind as well as to bring the audience to the heart of downtown Eugene and the Eugene Celebration.

This year the theme is Raise The Roof. The Willamette Valley Greyhound Lovers will again be walking in the parade. We are thinking positive that it will be bright and sunny.. (I have talked to the sun gods and they have assured me that it will NOT rain on our parade... WaHoo!!) so don those tutus, ties, and /or bling and join us. The greyhounds are the hit of the parade enjoy admiring looks, much clapping, ooohs & aaahs and pats from as many people as possible.

The parade is on Saturday morning, August 28th and starts at 10 AM. I don’t know the details yet about where we are going to be staged or what time we need to be there. I will send out more information as soon as I get them.

Lets make a huge Splash in the parade! See you all there.

Eugene Greyhound Picnic - Postscript

Wow did we have a great time! On Saturday, July 31 forty three greyhounds and their families gathered at Mary Lou and Jerry Finigan’s house in Eugene for the 6th annual Greyhound Picnic! It was an afternoon full of food, fun, and festivities for all!

The weather was perfect for the gathering: a little cool and cloudy, breaking into sun later in the day. Families enjoyed hamburgers, Boca burgers, and hot dogs cooked on the grill, while filling their plates with other pot luck goodies and deserts. Greys enjoyed a variety of doggie treats, although the biggest hit was a Frosty Paws doggie ice cream for everyone! Yum yum!

Picnic attendees were able to purchase tickets to try to win one (or more) fabulous raffle prizes! We had an incredible selection of raffle items donated this year - fancy collars, coats, light switch covers, foods, toys, art, and more! While some folks kept their fingers crossed for winning a raffle, others bid on silent auction items. Competition was stiff as greyhound families rivaled for doggie fleece jackets, greyhound themed art and jewelery, veterinary packages, and more! There was much excitement and anticipation as the hard won raffle and auction items were awarded at the end of the picnic.

Greyhounds participated in several games this year, including a hot dog bobbing contest, a water relay, and a wet T-shirt contest! We had many contestants, several winners, and a lot of laughs as participants and spectators enjoyed the comedy of greyhounds in action.

Clip clip! Greyhounds were able to have a pedicure at the picnic! Thank you to all the hound parents who bought tickets for nail clipping and to our fabulous “nail artist” Michelle Compoli for volunteering her services!

Owners and hounds enjoyed browsing in the vendor area for T-shirts, collars, leashes, toys, and other cool greyhound “must-have” items. So many greyt items, so hard to choose!

The picnic was extra special as we celebrated the birthday of one of our favorite greys, Tom, who turned 11 on picnic day. A beautiful greyhound themed cake was created and shared to mark the special occasion!

Special thanks to the people and businesses who donated prizes, raffle items, and silent auction items for this event! Our gratitude to Wags Dog Emporium, Safeway, Farmhand Feed, PetCo, Eugene Airport Rotary, Sonrise Christian Church, Natural Balance, Nutro Products, Solid Gold, Kym Fleming, Mary Lou & Jerry Finigan, Michelle Compoli, McKenzie Animal Hospital, Tina Collins, Kara Robinson, Donna Payne, Pam Sparks and Home Co, Liz Lowry.
_______________

A huge thank you to everyone who came out for this year’s greyhound picnic! It just gets better every year thanks to our fabulous greyhound adopters who join in the festivities, our vendors and raffle prize donors, our volunteers and our fabulous picnic host. Pat yourselves on the back for supporting greyhound rescue! See you at the next event!
