Poway, CA Girl's Brilliant Idea Now Saving Greyhounds

Willamette Valley Greyhound Lover Jon Nottage (now residing in San Diego) passed this story along to us.  Thanks Jon!

------------------------------------------------

POWAY (CBS 8) - A Poway teen is making a big difference in the lives of local dogs that need a leg up.

She is using a 3-D printer to create splints and prosthetics to help injured animals get back on their feet.

CBS News 8's photojournalist Kenny McGregor has more on the teens mission and the animals she's helping in this video.

Mary Lou Finigan Is Home From The Hospital!

As many of you know, Mary Lou Finigan, GPA Placement Volunteer covering the Eugene/Springfield area, was in the hospital for a few days for surgery.  We're happy to report that she is now back home where she belongs!  We wish Mary Lou a speedy recovery!

Here's a brief update from Mary Lou:

Hello to all!

I am home now, trying out my legs.. I can only sit up for 20 minutes at a time...ugh! But I get really exhausted so 20 minutes is good for now!

I have an appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday (7/13). So we will see what he has to say then...he was really pleased with what they did...😃

Miss Oletta and Quinn have been with me since I got home...Duffy, not so much! Two 4  legged, furry nurses are the best!

Corvallis “All-American Anyone-Can-Join Fabulous Fantastic 4th of July Parade”

Once again it’s time for the All American, Fabulous, Fantastic, Anyone-Can-Join Fourth of July Parade, which starts at 10AM at Central Park in Corvallis... on Monday, July 4th, of course!

All greyhound/sight hounds and their families are invited to assemble at 9:30AM at Central Park in front of the Arts Center in downtown Corvallis.
If tradition continues, the route will proceed east along Monroe Ave from Eighth Street to First Street, then south along First Street to Adams Avenue, then west one block to Second Street, where it continues south to the skate park.

Those of you who took part in the parade in past years know how much fun this parade can be, as the Willamette Valley Greyhound Lovers are one of the most popular participants.

As of this writing, the forecast temperature at parade time is around 75 degrees under mostly sunny skies.   Be sure to bring water!  Walking time in the parade is approximately 30 minutes.   Keith, Styx, Jester and I will definitely be participating.  Hope to see you there!

June 19th Greyhound Walk Correction

Hello Willamette Valley Greyhound Lovers,

It has been pointed out to me that Debrick Dr. was wrongly put in the newsletter as Derrick Drive.. Please note that it is Debrick Dr… I don’t want you to get lost! The correction below.

It looks like it will be a perfect weather on Sunday… see you all there.

Calling all Willamette Valley Greyhounds.. Join us on Father’s Day, June 19. Let’s try something new and walk to the top of Gillespie Butte. Park and meet at 1:30 near the corner of Clinton and Debrick Drives (northbound on Delta Hwy, take the Valley River exit but stay straight to turn left on Willogillespie, take the next right onto Clinton Dr., and park near the left turn onto Debrick Dr.) The roundtrip is only one mile but we will walk up hill, explore the cemetery, and then walk back down hill.

See you there!

Mary Lou
