Pet Day 2023 at Oregon State University! - Saturday, May 6th

OSU Pet Day Saturday, May 6, 2023!

Check out our Facebook page for updates.

OSU Pet Day is one of the most popular annual events in Corvallis! There are lots of fun activities including a petting zoo, teddy bear surgery, dog wash, dog agility demos and more. Numerous booths will be staffed by vendors and volunteers who provide information on animal health and wellness, nutrition, adoption and therapy. Other booths sell animal-related products and gifts. You can also visit with llamas, goats, greyhounds and ponies!

Pet Day is created, organized and staffed by students in the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University. This is their way of giving back to the community and continuing a legacy of public service at the college.

So come on down to Magruder Hall on the Oregon State campus on the first Saturday in May, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pet Day is free and open to the public. A few activities like the Fun Run and Dog Wash have small fees (cash only). Free parking is available at the west end of Reser Stadium.

Pets are welcome to attend Pet Day. However, pets need to be attended, leashed or contained with the owner at all times. Pets unfortunately cannot come into university buildings including Magruder Hall. Please plan accordingly when you are planning your visit to Pet Day. For more details, you can check out the university's animal policy

What to Do If Your Dog Eats Marijuana (Edibles, Weed, Vape Cartridges, etc.)

Well, this being Oregon and all....

From the Whole Dog Journal:

Recreational marijuana has become legalized in 21 states and medical marijuana can be prescribed in 37 states. As marijuana becomes more widely available, people are looking for ways to partake of this drug without having to smoke it. This has created a market for marijuana "edibles,” also known as cannabis edibles.

Cannabis edibles are products that contain the psychoactive component of marijuana called delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). A variety of products are available as cannabis edibles, including gummies and other candies, mints, chocolates and chocolate bars, beverages, potato chips, and baked goods such as brownies and cookies. Unfortunately, many of these sweet or savory options are also attractive to our dogs. While we may have more self-control regarding how many edibles we consume at one time, dogs are more likely to ingest an entire package of any edibles they can reach because they taste delicious.

FDA Sends Two Warning Letters

The U.S Food and Drug Administration has issued two Warning Letters in recent weeks. These are not recalls.

The FDA sent a Warning Letter to Primal Pet Foods, Inc. of Fairfield, California, due to serious safety violations which led to the food being adulterated.

The company produces multiple dog food and dog treat products.

For details, please visit this link:

FDA Issues Warning Letter to Primal Pet FoodsA Warning Letter has also been issued to Arrow Reliance Inc. of Tukwila, Washington, after Salmonella was found in unopened samples of Natural Selections Antibiotic & Grain-Free Chicken Recipe for Cats and Natural Selections Antibiotic & Grain-Free Turkey Recipe for Cats.

Arrow Reliance has also been warned about the use of peroxyacetic acid (PAA) in its pet food formulas. The FDA deems PAA to be an unapproved/unsafe animal food additive, however, Arrow Reliance says it uses the additive as a pathogen mitigation method to reduce the risk of E. coli and Salmonella in its raw pet food formulations.

Mary Lou placed many of the greyhounds of our WVGL readers, and some are still with their families today! Let's meet at Alton Baker Park and stop by Mary Lou's Bench for a little remembrance time before we begin our walk. We will gather at the Plaza area between the rock garden and the restrooms, on the west side of the park.
