Dog Food Recall - Darwin’s Natural Pet Products Natural Selections Chicken Recipe with Organic Vegetables

FDA Warning After Salmonella Detected in Darwin’s Natural Pet Products for Dogs

August 16, 2023 – The FDA has warned pet parents not to feed their dogs a certain lot of Darwin’s Natural Pet Products raw dog food as it has tested positive for salmonella.

What was recalled?

The food is made by Arrow Reliance Inc and the lot affected is:

  • Darwin’s Natural Pet Products Natural Selections Chicken Recipe with Organic Vegetables for Dogs, Lot 9774, manufactured on June 13, 2023.
  • The products are in white and clear plastic packages and have blue labeling. Each package weighs two pounds and consists of four separate units. The lot codes are printed on the front of the lower left unit of the package.

    What to do?

If you have these lots of pet food from Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, or you can’t be sure of the lot code of the products you have, throw them away. Do not feed them to your pets.

The FDA recommended that the manufacturer voluntarily recall these products and notify the public, but the company has not yet done so.

Salmonella can affect both human and animal health. People with symptoms of salmonella infection should consult their health care providers. Consult a veterinarian if your pet has symptoms of salmonella infection.

    Reporting Pet Food Problems

U.S. citizens can report complaints about FDA-regulated pet food products by calling the consumer complaint coordinator in your area.

Or go to the FDA’s “Report a Pet Food Complaint” page.

Canadians can report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.

    Statement

Darwin’s strongly refutes the FDA’s warning, saying it believes the action is ‘wholly unnecessary’. The company said it had not received any complaints from customers about the product and it is confident its meals are safe.

    Pumpkin For Dogs

    From the Whole Dog Journal

Pumpkin is good for dogs, including dogs with diarrhea.

Pumpkin is good for dogs, and it often helps dogs with diarrhea or, ironically, constipation. Despite the lack of scientific studies explaining how pumpkin works in dogs and what the dose of pumpkin to give a dog, a multitude of anecdotal reports support the benefits of pumpkin in dogs.
