Treasure
September 19, 2009 - May 20, 2023
We
let Treasure (fka Let ‘Er Rip) go on May 20th, after the pain from her
spinal tumor got too intense to control. Born on September 19th, 2009,
Treasure joined our family on March 16th 2012 after running a single
race in Florida. She enjoyed an 11 year retirement in the company of
fellow greyhounds Penny, then Sterling, and finally Ruby and Bijou.
When a new placement volunteer was needed for the Eugene-Springfield
area, I accepted the job only because of my absolute confidence that
Treasure would excel at home visits and demonstrate to people new to the
breed how amazing sharing your life with a greyhound could be. Besides
helping me find homes for dozens of retired racers, Treasure kept busy
in her retirement: attending the Solvang Gathering of the Greyhounds,
Call of the Wild Camp in Yachats, modeling for the GPANW calendars and
the Hound Fancies Etsy store, and hiking all over the nearby National
Forests. 7 years ago Stephenie was diagnosed with Type II Breast Cancer,
and Treasure proved herself a devoted nurse, dispensing much needed
snuggles during the grim slog of chemotherapy.
Treasure’s impact on my life was immeasurable. My time with her was a
blessing and it is impossible to grapple with the fact that it is over.
